Description
If you want to conquer a mountain peak and cool off under a waterfall all in one day, this tour is made for you. You’ll first hike to the summit of Le Pouce, then reward yourselves with a refreshing dip in one of Mauritius’ most beautiful swimmable waterfalls, Minissy. Two completely different sides of nature in a single day – a panoramic mountain ascent and a wild forest waterfall experience.
1. Part: Le Pouce Hike – views of Peter Both and Port Louis
The tour begins in the morning from the parking area at the foot of Le Pouce or from the official trailhead. Le Pouce is Mauritius’ third-highest peak at 812 metres, but the hike is technically quite easy – more of a long uphill walk than an extreme challenge.
-
The trail goes steadily upward, but the path is well-established
-
Several photo stops and shaded resting points along the way
-
The summit view is the true reward: nearly all of Mauritius unfolds before you, with the famous Peter Both rising directly ahead with its iconic balancing rock
-
Take your time at the top – have a snack, drink some water and capture the scenery. These moments make the early wake-up worth it.
2. Part: Minissy Waterfall – natural swimming pool for refreshment
After descending the mountain (usually quicker than the ascent), a short 15-minute drive takes you to Minissy Waterfall. Hidden in a lush green valley, this waterfall is considered one of the most beautiful swimming spots in Mauritius.
Beneath the falls you’ll find a large, clear natural pool where you can rinse off the dust from the hike, swim, or simply relax on the rocks surrounded by nature’s sounds. For many visitors, this refreshing stop becomes the highlight of the entire day.
Total duration of the tour
Combined, the two activities typically take 5–6 hours, depending on your pace, how long you stay at the summit and how much time you spend at the waterfall. It’s not a rushed program, but starting early is recommended to avoid the midday heat during the hike.
What to bring
-
Comfortable hiking shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy
-
At least 1.5 litres of water per person, especially for the ascent
-
Swimwear and towel for the waterfall
-

-
Small backpack, sandwich or energy bar
Who is this tour for?
