Underwater sea walk – an underwater adventure without needing to swim
Explore the vibrant marine life of Mauritius’ lagoons through a unique helmet dive, walking safely at a depth of 3–4 metres. Colourful fish, corals and, with a bit of luck, even a turtle may accompany you – all while you simply walk underwater instead of diving.
Perfect from age 8 and completely suitable even if you cannot swim.
Description
If you’re looking for something truly unique that goes far beyond traditional beach days or snorkelling, the Underwater sea walk is an experience you shouldn’t miss. It’s one of the most exciting water activities in Mauritius and can be enjoyed even by those who can’t swim but still want to explore the marine world up close.
What exactly is the Underwater sea walk?
It’s a special type of helmet dive where you wear an oxygen-supplied helmet and walk along the sandy bottom of the lagoon at around three to four metres deep. Your face stays completely dry, you breathe normally, and you can enjoy the views as colourful fish, corals and – with a bit of luck – turtles or rays glide past you.
No swimming skills are needed, and no diving licence is required. You simply walk along the seabed as if you’ve stepped into another world. This is exactly what makes the Underwater sea walk so extraordinary.
Where and when does it take place?
The experience is usually offered along the northern coastline of Mauritius, in calm, well-protected lagoons. The exact meeting point and starting time are arranged in advance, depending on sea and weather conditions. The entire activity takes around 90 minutes, with the actual Underwater sea walk lasting 15 to 20 minutes – every minute of it unforgettable.
Who is it recommended for?
The Underwater sea walk is perfect if you:
– Want to admire marine life but are not confident swimmers or divers
– Prefer a short, special activity rather than a full-day excursion
– Would love unique holiday photos
– Are looking for something suitable for almost everyone, from kids aged 8 to grandparents
What should you bring?
– Swimwear, towel, quick-dry clothing
– Comfortable sandals or water shoes
– Sunscreen and a hat for the boat ride
– At least half a litre of water per person
– A camera or waterproof phone for taking photos on the boat
Important information
– The activity only takes place in calm sea conditions, so delays are possible
– Not recommended during pregnancy or for guests with heart or respiratory issues
– The helmet can feel heavy, so very young children need sufficient shoulder strength
– Advance booking is essential, especially during high season
If you want an experience you’ll remember for years to come, make sure to include the Underwater sea walk in your Mauritius holiday. It’s exciting, completely safe and offers a truly unique way to discover the underwater world – without any diving courses or swimming experience.
